Read an article in Time about LB on 7/31/04 and on 8/1/04 found our
first box. (Thanks to Princess Lea for the box, GREAT oompa loompa
stamp and leading me here)Cant wait to find more and place our
first. I have two daughters 4 & 7 and they had a lot of fun. I
figured anything that could get the family to go on a hike had to be
good and it turned out even better. Bought a container last night
and planning a trip to Yosemite in Sept.(if anyone knows of boxes
between Petaluma and Yos let me know-I already have two stops in
mind). Just need to carve a stamp and get the kids to come up with
cute names....
looking forward to getting to know ya all

Just keep in mind--it is illegal to hide boxes in national parks.
If you DO hide a box in the park, you probably shouldn't publicize
the clues too much or else the park personnel will pull it.
Generally, it's best to hide it outside of the park where your box
can live a long and happy life without fear of getting pulled in the
immediate future. =)

Illegal? Or they don't like it?
We have a series of three boxes (two left apparently) in a national park -
only heard they don't like them after we planted them. But don't really want
to break the law.....

They REALLY, REALLY, REALLY don't like you to! Just ask a few other
poor souls out there who have been threatened with legal
proceedings. ;)

Some of you have seen my WARNING from Capitol Reef National Park (I
know you've never heard of it...and they don't want you finding
letterboxes there either!)
My VIOLATIONS are listed as:
section 36 CFR subsection 2.22(a)(2) Leaving Propery Unattended
AND
sction 36 CFR subsection 1.5 (f) Closed Area (supt's compendium)
Even though there were no signs telling us we were not supposed to be
in that area and there was nothing on our maps of the park saying
that you were not supposed to be in that area. (believe me, I have
double checked on that one)
My letterbox is being held as possible future evidence against me.
(it is contraband)
I have been warned that if I EVER hide a letterbox in another
National Park, I will be fined and banned from National Parks.

Wow! Hearing all this, I think we'll go pull ours outta there! (though it
might take some months to get back there....)
So, if any of you want to visit the Alien boxes while they're still there,
go for it! They're an easy little hike, family friendly, and can be used as
an excuse to visit one of the most beautiful areas on our beautiful planet
(imho).
The second box had been destroyed, but its contents found by a letterboxer
and placed in the third box. However, the first box clues only direct the
seeker to the second box! Don't despair - the third box is only a little
further than the second. Follow the clues to the second box, and then keep
walking until you get to the next likely place a box might be hidden under.

So whadda ya get these days for "leaving property unattended"? You'd
think they'd charge a letterboxer with littering, or maybe "creating
an attractive nuisance." Course that last one would depend on how
well the stamp was carved. ;-)
